Welding compliance

Welding certification
& standards.

The most technical section of this page. Each certified standard is stated with a plain-language explanation of what it covers; additional standards are applied per project scope.

AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2

Welding Quality Requirements — Comprehensive

Part 2 (Comprehensive) covers the full set of welding quality requirements for welded fabrication, including welding procedure qualification, welder competency, welding consumable management, joint preparation, pre- and post-weld heat treatment, inspection and testing, and non-conformance control. It is the most rigorous of the three ISO 3834 quality levels.

Certificate number and current-to date provided on request.

AS/NZS 5131

Structural Steelwork Fabrication — Construction Category 3

AS/NZS 5131 accreditation confirms compliance with Construction Category 3 (CC3) requirements for structural steelwork fabrication and erection. CC3 is the construction category required for major structural steel applications across mining, heavy industrial and infrastructure projects.

Accreditation body: Steel Construction Australia

Certificate number and current-to date provided on request.

ASI Fabricator Membership

Additional welding standards compliance

Work is executed in compliance with applicable Australian and international welding standards, including:

  • AS/NZS 1554 Structural Steel Welding series
  • AS 1210 Pressure Vessels — where applicable
  • AS 4041 Pressure Piping — where applicable
  • EN 15085 Railway Vehicle Welding — where applicable and as confirmed per scope
  • DIN 2303 Welding quality — where specified
  • EN 1090 Structural steel — where specified
  • Client-specific codes Welding codes and standards as required per project scope
QA / QC

Quality processes,
documented.

ISO 9001 certification states the system exists. This is what it means in practice — the framework every fabrication and construction scope is delivered under.

01

Inspection & Test Plans

Project-specific ITPs developed to client or standard requirements, with hold and witness points defined and managed throughout fabrication and installation.

02

Material traceability

Full material traceability from mill certificates through to finished component. Material Data Records (MDR) compiled and delivered at project completion.

03

NDT coordination

Non-destructive testing coordination and management for weld inspection — including UT, MPI, PT, RT and PAUT where specified. Third-party NDT services coordinated under HWM’s QMS.

04

Non-conformance management

Documented non-conformance process with corrective-action tracking and close-out. An NCR register is maintained throughout the project.

05

Welding quality management

WPS and PQR qualification, welder competency records, welding consumable control, weld mapping and post-weld heat treatment records maintained under AS/NZS ISO 3834 Part 2.

06

Documentation & handover

Full QA documentation package compiled and delivered at completion, including ITPs, weld maps, NDT reports, NCR register, hydrostatic test records and MDR.

Health, safety & environment

HSE
systems.

HWM Engineering holds ISO 45001:2018 (occupational health & safety) and ISO 14001:2015 (environmental) certification across all operations, including workshop fabrication and site-based work.

HSE documentation

  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) prepared per scope
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for high-risk activities
  • HSE Management Plans for major scopes
  • Incident reporting and investigation under ISO 45001

Site safety

  • Site-specific HSE induction completed before works commence
  • Permit-to-work and isolation procedures followed on all live-environment sites
  • Toolbox talks and pre-start meetings on all site deployments

Environmental

  • Environmental management in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 across workshop and site activities
  • Waste management, spill response and environmental incident reporting procedures in place
